This position is responsible for processing all Emergency Room admissions for the hospital.The employee maintains the data integrity in the Mater Patient Index of the computer system.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Registers Emergency Room patients.
Follows all registration requirements under the EMTALA laws.
Verifies insurance coverage and/or verifies and obtains authorization when necessary.
Obtains and verifies patient demographic information and enters it into the HMS system.
Performs Office Assistant duties as needed.
Completes admissions as directed by physiciansí orders via ER or direct admissions.
Obtains authorization on all admissions at the time of admission, if required by Insurance Carrier.
Registers after-hours ancillary visits, with approval of the Team Leader, Admissions Supervisor, or Manager, Patient Financial Services.
Ensures that all information is scanned into the patient account.
Collects co-pays, coinsurance and/or balance due from Emergency Room patients at the time of service.
Provides written receipts for payments received to the payer.
Verifies the previous dayís Emergency Room registrations for accuracy and insurance eligibility.
Updates patient information received from nursing in patient records and logs changes in patient notes in HMS.
Assists the Emergency Services Department as needed.
Explains patient responsibilities related to insurance plans, co-pays and coinsurance.
Obtains all proper signatures for patient consent.
Advises and obtains signatures on all Medicare patientsíďImportant Message from MedicareĒ Form.
Maintains productivity records in accordance with the departmentís policies and procedures.
Maintains observance of the fire panel, code blue panel and blood bank panel and notifies appropriate hospital personnel in the event that an abnormality occurs as needed.
Attends and participates in monthly department staff meetings
Reviews and signs off on the Communication Book on a daily basis in accordance with applicable compliance requirements.
Attends mandatory department and hospital in-service training sessions.
Appropriately routes patientsí complaints.
Adheres and follows all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Applies the hospitalís principles of safety in all work practices.Reports any identified safety risks or incidents per the hospitalís policies and procedures.
Maintains current knowledge of requirements and regulations of specific insurance carriers and corresponding insurance forms, as well as state collection laws and HIPAA as it applies to admitting and registration.
Maintains a neat, orderly and safe work area.
Follows all infection control and employee health policies and procedures at all times.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times according to the hospitalís established policies and procedures.
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred. Knowledgeable in Medicare compliance guidelines, Florida Medicaid and third-party insurance companies preferred.
